You’ll be pleased to hear that paper has the highest recycling rate of any material in the UK. For every tonne of paper recycled we save 17 trees, not to mention thousands of gallons of water, oil and energy that goes into manufacturing virgin paper.

The volume of shredded paper being recycled by shredding companies each day is constantly growing. Still though, only around 48% of UK office paper is recycled at present, so the scope for businesses to improve is huge.

You’ve filled up your shredding sack or shredding console, and we’ve shredded it securely and easily on site for you. But where does it go now? What happens to all those tiny pieces of unrecognisable paper?

Answer:

The simple answer is, they’re responsibly taken away to be recycled, ready to start a new life as another piece of office paper, or an entirely different product.

In terms of what really happens to the recycled paper, the process is as follows…

• Your shredded paper arrives at the paper mill
• The paper fibres are mixed with water to and placed into a pulper
• The pulp is screened to separate excess materials such as printing ink, staples and plastic.
• It’s then mixed with fresh pulp
• It’s rolled out into thin sheets and made into different new materials such as tissues, kitchen roll or newspaper.
• Incredibly, paper can be recycled up 20 times!

Anything from white grade office paper to leaflets or even spiral bound notebooks can be thrown in together to be recycled.
